Legionnaires’ Disease Linked To Mountain State Fair Exhibit
More than 130 people have reported developing symptoms or Legionnaires’ Disease after visiting the Mountain State Fair in Fletcher, North Carolina. There have been more than a dozen confirmed cases of the disease and two reported deaths so far. These numbers continue to grow as news of the outbreak spreads.
Health officials suspect that exposure to the Legionella bacteria that causes the disease is linked to a hot tub exhibit at the event. The bacteria is carried through water vapor or mist leading to exposure through inhalation. Countless people may have been exposed simply by walking through the exhibit.
