Driving in and around Charlotte is not without its share of risks. The major metropolitan area sees a lot of traffic each day, and with that, the potential for North Carolina motorists becoming involved in accidents. Sadly, one person recently lost his life in a two-vehicle crash in the Queen City.
The accident occurred around 9 a.m. the morning of Wednesday, March 2. At that time, emergency crews responded to a crash on Albemarle Road near the I-485 loop. The crash involved two vehicles.
According to reports, a car driven by a man of unspecified age was turning left onto Albemarle Road from an adjoining street. That was when another vehicle driven by a woman whose age was not released either. The impact critically injured the male driver, and he was declared dead at a local medical center. The woman reportedly only suffered minor injuries. Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts, and authorities do not suspect impairment as a causal factor. The accident is still under investigation.
Legal options for compensation
Should authorities determine the woman was at fault for the accident, the surviving family of the man who passed away may elect to pursue a wrongful death claim against the driver in an attempt to recover medical costs, funeral expenses and other damages. If officials determine the man was at fault for causing the accident, his estate can be named in a personal injury claim from the woman driver for any monetary damages she sustained. Either way, affected parties will want to work closely with a personal injury attorney in North Carolina to increase their chances of obtaining a successful outcome.
