Criminal defense: multiple charges for man after high-speed chase

| Dec 22, 2020 | Traffic Violations |

People facing criminal charges often feel as though they have no one they can turn to for help. An arrest record can carry a certain stigma that may damage a person’s reputation. Still, the court system sometimes forgets that people are more than the mistakes they may have made, or that they have been unfairly accused of making. This is why everyone is entitled seek criminal defense support, regardless of the circumstances involved in each case. One man here in North Carolina may have to keep that exact fact in mind as he faces multiple charges stemming from a high-speed chase involving police.

Authorities say everything started on a recent early morning when they responded to a call for a wellness check at a convenience store. Officers say that when they arrived, they found the suspect in his vehicle in the parking lot and that they believed they saw marijuana inside the car. Furthermore, they claim that the man in the car would not exit his vehicle when requested to do so and sped off instead.

Officials report that a high-speed chase ensued, ending with the suspect’s car flipping and hitting a building after hitting a road tile. Police say that the suspect climbed into the roof of the building, but he was taken into custody there. He was then taken to a local hospital for treatment and later released with a cracked vertebra. He was arrested and has been charged with multiple offenses, including driving while impaired, failure to register a vehicle and possession of a stolen firearm.

No matter what the circumstances of an arrest may be, in this country all people have the right to defend themselves against criminal charges. To that end, it may be best for an accused person in North Carolina to work with a skilled criminal defense attorney. A legal professional will ensure that an accused person’s rights are honored and will fight to ensure that person receives fair treatment under the judicial system.
