Though the weather is turning cooler, many people who love their motorcycles are still out enjoying their bikes. Unfortunately, this mode of transportation is not without risk, as riders and passengers on motorcycles are more likely to suffer serious injury or death when they are involved in a crash. A recent motorcycle accident here in North Carolina resulted in the death of one man and serious injuries to his wife after they were struck by a car.

Police say that the crash happened on a recent evening just before the start of the weekend. A motorcycle was stopped on a local roadway for reasons that are not clear. Officers say that a vehicle hit the motorcycle and its two occupants. The husband and wife were rushed to an area hospital for treatment, but the man died as a result of his injuries. The woman remains in critical condition and police say her injuries are severe.

The driver of the car accused of hitting them was arrested and has been charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle as well as the failure to reduce speed to avoid colliding with a vehicle. Police say they have reason to believe that alcohol may have contributed to this accident. Their investigation is still open at this time and they may announce more details once it is completed.

If the injured woman survives, she may have extensive expenses related to the crash that she will have to deal with, in addition, of course, to the tragic loss of her husband. She may want to file civil litigation against the driver, whether he is found guilty of the criminal charges against him or not. An attorney here in North Carolina can help those who have been hurt or have lost a loved one to a motorcycle accident. It may be an effective means of securing justice.
